Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some of the most common questions we get from homeowners before booking a visit or going ahead with roofing works.
What types of roofing work do you do?
We cover all aspects of roofing work, including slate roofs, tiled roofs, flat roofs, fascias, soffits, gutters, Velux windows, repairs, and full roof replacements.
If it is part of the roof, we do it.
Can you give me a rough idea of price before visiting?
In most cases, no.
Unless we have seen the issue properly, anything we say would just be a guess. We do not want to give confusing advice or quote blindly.
The best thing to do is refer to our pricing page for a general idea, especially if you already have a rough idea of the issue. Once we have inspected it properly, we can give you clear advice and a proper price.
How soon can you come out?
We aim to visit as quickly as possible.
In many cases, we can attend within one to five working days. Sometimes we can come out on the same day, and occasionally even sooner if we are already working nearby.
It depends on the job and where we are, but we always aim to get there as fast as we realistically can.
Will you show me what the problem is?
Yes.
Showing you the issue clearly and explaining it in plain English is standard practice at Joseph James Roofing. Where possible, we will show you photo or video evidence so you can see exactly what is wrong for yourself.
Are you fully insured?
Yes, we are fully insured.
We can provide insurance documents by email on request.
Do you guarantee your work?
Yes.
All repairs come with a one year guarantee, and all full roof replacements come with a ten year guarantee.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes, for larger jobs.
Deposits are required for materials, skips, scaffolding, and other upfront costs. This does not apply to our £250 same day small repair service.
Anything above £250 usually requires a deposit before works begin.
How do payments work on bigger jobs?
For works over £500, we use a three stage payment structure.
-
An initial deposit for materials and any upfront costs
-
Fifty percent of the labour cost when roughly fifty percent of the job is complete
-
The remaining fifty percent of the labour cost once the work is finished
The 3 stage payment system keeps things fair for everybody.
Will you tidy up after the work is finished?
Yes.
We tidy up at the end of every day. We understand that people have children and pets, and the last thing anyone wants is debris or sharp materials left around the property.
We take pride in our work, and we take pride in leaving your home as tidy as possible too.
Can I send photos first?
Yes, and it often helps.
You can send photos by text message or WhatsApp. The most useful photos are wide shots of the outside roof area and wider photos from inside the room so we can understand the location of the problem.
Very close up photos of a damp patch on a wall or ceiling usually do not tell us much on their own, because they do not show where the leak is coming from.
What is the best way to book in?
There is no one best way.
You are welcome to call, text, WhatsApp, or use the contact form on our website. We aim to respond as soon as possible, and all enquiries are responded to within 24 hours of initial contact.
Do I pay VAT on top of the quoted price?
No. The price you are quoted is the price you pay. Nothing added on top.
